The Ayatollahs in Iran chose 4 candidates for president from 475 as suitable to run. That alone should indicate that there was no "democratic" element in these elections. I personally do not believe that Ahmadinejad really lost the elections after that. I suspect he really is quite popular. Nevertheless, I would not say he was democratically elected or that there is anything democratic about Iran, as Roger Cohen likes to argue.<br /><br />I would not, however, be so quick to say that Ahmadinejad is a "figurehead," though it is true that it is very difficult to say how much power he actually holds.<br /><br />I would also add that what worries me most is not whether Israel will bomb Iran, but whether Iran will bomb Israel.Yehudahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04472453413892018818noreply@blogger.com
